Japan has experienced numerous earthquake disasters, and the field of earthquake science has developed alongside the history of these events. We will examine how earthquake research in Japan has progressed towards understanding the fundamental nature of earthquakes and their associated disasters, particularly in light of the lessons learned from the Great Kanto Earthquake Disaster, the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster, and the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster."
