The ongoing conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo starting from 1996 have led to a total of six million victims. Especially in the eastern region of the country, over 100 armed groups financed through abundant mineral resources are in operation, committing human rights violations against the residents. Sexual violence has been committed in an organized way as part of such human rights violations. For this symposium, we have invited Dr. Denis Mukwege, who has treated the survivors of sexual violence in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He will talk about the actual state of sexual violence in conflict taking place in the region. Let’s discuss what we can do to realize peace and justice.
