In the Eastern Congo, some of rich rare metal resources are under control of armed groups. They are exercising brute force to the people living around the mines. It is especially blameful that they use sexual violence as a means to shock and control the residents. In this symposium, Dr. Denis Mukwege, the gynecologist engaging in medical treatment of the victims of sexual violence in the Eastern Congo, talks about the relationship between the sexual violence and the rare metal industry.
