Fisheries is the largest-scale industry which utilizes wild animals as resources. As its productivity depends on natural resilience, science of fisheries should seriously think about the relationship between human and nature, and consider how we can enjoy the befits of the natural ecosystem sustainably. In this lecture, Prof. Yamakawa introduces the roles science of fisheries has played for the sustainable use of marine resources and also talks about its tasks and prospects.
